Churchyard Interpretation Board New Sept. 2010

A Display Board Guide to History, Nature, and Memorials in Hanmer Churchyard

Churchyard Interpretation Board New Sept. 2010

Interpretation Board

You are invited to the opening of the board at 2:30pm on Friday 17th September 2010 by Heather Williams the Sacred Space Lead Officer. There will be a guided tour of interesting discoveries in the churchyards. Refreshments will follow in church at 3:30pm. A photographic presentation of the tour will be shown in church. This will be an alternative for those who would find the churchyard to rough for them. It will also be a 'fall back' option if the weather is awful.

In September 2010 an interpretation board was placed at the edge of the north churchyard by the vicarage gate. It was provided by the Sacred Space organisation and is bilingual. The board is accompanied by a guide leaflet available in church. It tells of events in Hanmer during the Wars of the Roses and the Civil War. It tells of ancient yew trees, very old and large Atlas Cedars, and an unusual weeping ash. Plant and animal life to look for month by month are identified. Interesting memorials to look for are identified.
