St Mael and St Sulien
Corwen Church is the largest in the Edeyrnion area of St Asaph Diocese; the earliest reference to the church is 1222, where in the Shrewsbury Cartulary it shows that there were sixteen clerics at 'Corvaen'denoting its importance as an ecclesiastical centre.Originally built in cruciform style, though only its North transcept remains, it was a proportionary church, probably Cistercian, as in 1222AD 'Seisyll, Dean of Corvaen' witnessed a charter of Madog ap Gruffydd, the great granfather of Owain Glyndwr, in favour of the Cistercian Abbey of Valley Crucis near Llangollen. The circulat graveyard suggests an earlier pagan ritual site; an ancient pre-Christian standing stone having been built into the church porch. A later Christian stone cross situated on the south west side and dates to 1000AD stands on a prehistoric cup marked stone.
