St Clement

St Clement

St Clement Church stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the river Wye and the Waun Capel Parc. At one time it was part of Rhayader castle and in its early Dark Age foundation was linked too and named after Saint Cynllo. Today the church lies at the heart of the town and is the focus not just for public worship but for concerts, exhibitions as well as our church childrens work and also the joyous occassions of christenings and weddings

Large railing enclosed area marks the site of the 'giant's grave marking the resting place of what were assumed to be defenders of the castle during the Welsh rebellion discovered during excavations for the building of the church tower. In the South boundary of the church is a 17th century building, all that remains of a row of cottages that once stood here.
