St David's The Gaufron
This church was built over 100 years ago to allow the workers on the pipeline from the Elan valley dams to Birmigham to worship. It was not new then and was drawn on dray horses from Ledbury. The building was a timber framed, sheet metal clad structure that by the end of the 20th century had to be closed for Health and safety reasons. In 2002 it was demolished, the fixtures and fittings used to create the St David's Chapel within St Clement's Church. Today the site is a garden outlining the shape of the church. It has a cross made from the roof timbers and one of the original pews on site. A plaque commemorates its history. The site is still consecrated and worship still takes place there on special occassions.

Transport
A walk of just over one mile from the centre of Rhayader will bring you to this site. Watch the red kites gathering over the Gigrin Farm before feeding time!
